More Word!

Luke 2: 14  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

We all know this verse of Scripture. We read it every year at Christmas time. But how much thought have we given this one sentence? What does it mean to each of us and have we made it a part of our lives? Our topic for this morning is “In The Highest!”

Glory to God in the Highest!

Glory - Magnificence, splendor, beauty, grandeur, brilliance, exaltation

Glory – Credit, fame, praise, triumph, admiration, stardom

All the Glory belongs to God! For He Alone is Worthy to be Praised! Praised for Who He Is and Praised for the Great Things He has Done!

So how do we Praise Him? How do we give Him the Glory?

Highest means uppermost, maximum, peak, utmost, premier, supreme, ultimate, record ( our praise should be a record High, break all records!)

1 Chronicles 16: 23   Let the whole earth sing to the  Lord !
Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.
24  Publish his glorious deeds among the nations.
Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.
25  Great is the  Lord ! He is most worthy of praise!
He is to be feared above all gods.
26  The gods of other nations are mere idols,
but the  Lord  made the heavens!
27  Honor and majesty surround him;
strength and joy fill his dwelling.

28  O nations of the world, recognize the  Lord ,
recognize that the  Lord  is glorious and strong.
29  Give to the  Lord  the glory he deserves!
Bring your offering and come into his presence.
Worship the  Lord  in all his holy splendor.
30       Let all the earth tremble before him.
The world stands firm and cannot be shaken.

31  Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice!
Tell all the nations, “The  Lord  reigns!”
32  Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!
Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy!
33  Let the trees of the forest sing for joy before the  Lord ,
for he is coming to judge the earth.

34  Give thanks to the  Lord , for he is good!
     His faithful love endures forever.
35  Cry out, “Save us, O God of our salvation!
Gather and rescue us from among the nations,
so we can thank your holy name
     and rejoice and praise you.”

Glory to God in the highest is pleasing to God!

And On Earth Peace!

Peace – harmony, reconciliation, end of war, calm, quiet, stillness

How much time do we really think about peace on earth? And how much effort do we give to making peace a reality in our lives?

Isaiah 45: 18  For the  Lord  is God,
and he created the heavens and earth
     and put everything in place.
He made the world to be lived in,
not to be a place of empty chaos.
“I am the  Lord ,” he says,
     “and there is no other.

Chaos – confusion, disorder, anarchy, disarray, turmoil, madness, mess

What are we doing about the ‘chaos' in our world?

Romans 12: 18  If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

And if any are thinking, oh it's not possible for me. Think again! It is possible for Jesus died to send us all the help we need.

John 14: 26  But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.   27  Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

All who belong to Jesus have His Spirit living in them and that is why Jesus said:

Matthew 5: Blessed  are  the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.

Peace on Earth gives Glory to God and is Pleasing to God!

Good Will Toward Men!

Are we Christians, people of good will? Since we've been saved have we seen an increase in kindness, friendliness, helpfulness, generosity, concern and care for others in our lives?

That's good will, a willingness to give, reach out to others in need.

Mattherw22 : 37  Jesus said to him,  “‘You shall love the  Lord  your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'   38  This is  the  first and great commandment.   39  And  the  second  is  like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'

Are we willing to love others? Are we willing to love the unlovable?

Galatians 5: 19  When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,   20  idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,   21  envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

22  But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,   23  gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 24  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.   25  Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.

Goodwill is giving! Goodwill is generosity! Goodwill shows love!

2 Corinthians 9: 6  Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.   You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”   And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.   As the Scriptures say,

“They share freely and give generously to the poor.
Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”

10  For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. 11  Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.   12  So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God. 13  As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ.   14  And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you.

Goodwill towards men gives Glory to God and is Pleasing to God!

Who can beat God's giving? Who can surpass God's generosity? No one! But in 2018 we can pray to be more like Him and we can thank Him more and give Him glory in the Highest by the way we live our lives!

Luke 2: 11   For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Thanks Be  to God for His indescribable gift!

2 Corinthians 9:15

Closing Prayer

This, then, is what I pray, kneeling before the Father, from whom every fatherhood, in heaven or on earth, takes its name. In the abundance of his glory may he, through his Spirit, enable you to grow firm in power with regard to your inner self, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, with all God's holy people you will have the strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height and the depth; so that, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond knowledge, you may be filled with the utter fullness of God. Glory be to him whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine; glory be to him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:14-21
